Origin and history

Guraraná (Paullinia sorbilis), is a creeping shrub native to the Amazon, used for the Guaranis, an indigenous people of South America as a stimulant and medicine for stomach diseases, dysentry, and other conditions. Over centuries, indigenous people have used a paste of dry and roasted seeds Guaraná, and water to prepare foods, drinks, and medicines.

Guaraná is considered that fights fatigue, increases mental alertness, and physical endurance. Millions of people daily take Guaraná, an effective and stimulant beverage, to overcome fatigue, to improve acute mood and cognitive performance, to detoxify the blood, to combat premature aging, obesity, dyspepsia, and arteriosclerosis. Their seeds contain up to 4-8% caffeine about twice the concentration of caffeine found in coffee seeds, as well as trace amounts of theophylline and theobromine. Also, Guaraná contains antioxidants poliphenoles, flavonoids, terpens, saponins, tannins, vitamins and minerals.
